Prayer and meditation are a big part of my recovery program. Every morning I pull out a stack of daily meditation books to get my day off to a peaceful start. Why a stack? I've had a few people say it's because I'm sicker than most but I just figure that if one doesn't motivate me I've got a few more to choose from.
I suppose it was through meditation, yes. But it was much more than that, it came from finally accepting myself, from forgiving myself, from a desire to stop beating myself up mentally, from trying to live in the present moment-not the past or the future.
I dont walk around constantly in some state of nirvana or God-conciousness, I still have a lot of crazy crap going on in my mind most of the time, but sometimes I can drop that crap and find peace for a while. I can then carry a little of that peace with me though the day.
