Learning to me means replacing false ideas and assumptions with less false ones. Building a scale mental picture of the world.

Hi Citychick,

Learning is a part of life...It is like we are all in this big school of life...If we learn well from our mistakes, we will gain strength and knowlege to help us with the next lesson of life...If we do not learn, we will be cast the lesson over and over, until we get it right...OR don't and die...

How true of sobriety and the grips of addiction...

learning to me is allowing room for the truth that there is more than one answer and likely more than one RIGHT answer

Experience + Open mind - Ego = Learning

okay it's like this, for me.

I've been doing some gardening lately...triming trees.
There's damn branches spew all over the place...big ass branches.
it looked over whelming as as heck. The only tool I has was a manual cutter.
I know if I had a grinding machine it could be done in 1/2 hour.
But I had to accept that I only had a manual cutter.lol
I guess do the best with what you have, where ever you are.

I looked at the mess for about 10 mins, thinking it totally sucks.
There was no one around me for me to complain to.lol

So I started cutting the big branches into smaller manageable size, one at a time.
it took me about 3-4 hours in the 110 degree heat.

So i went at it again this morning for a couple more hours.
The yard looks clean and all the trimming fits into 2 dumpsters.

Okay, I think that's a prelude of whats to come for me in my personal life.
Everything seems so overwhelming for me at the moment.

you know...oneday at a time, one instruction at a time, one foot in front of the other. it's not complicate, it just takes action.

Learning is why we are here on this earth, in my opinion.

Learning is moving forward with life.

.."What does learning mean to you?"
For a minute, I thought this was a trick question. What does it mean to me?

Listening, observing, experiencing...all the lessons of life...and retaining the knowledge in order to apply it to all phases of my existence.

Then I got out my good old Roget's Thesaurus:

learning, verb - the mastering and acquiring of knowledge

In the context of recovery...
I consider AA a program
for personal joy and purpose.

Meetings are classrooms for sobriety.
The more I go...the more I learn

Smile

Thank you all for taking time to reply to my question. Your thoughts have been a tremendous help to me.

I've been trying to write an assignment on "what does learning mean to you? I didn't think it'd be too hard....I was wrong.

Not being a natural writer...just getting ideas out of my head and on to paper's been a challenge. Maybe early sobriety's got something to do with it, I don't know.?

Anyway, thanks again for making time to help me. Your insights are brilliant!!

Love to all you guys..
