Don't Quit Part 10
Speaking for myself, even when being with the family and that they drink I didn't imbibe these last couple of days off. A hard lesson is that our Recovery comes first. And I've been in jails, been in institutions and came pretty darn close to the next-to-last house on that particular street.
To recover means to skip that house and be in Recovery. To backslide means to go next door and possibly never to return. Thus our vigilance remains high and we never quit.
There's a future for us all. So instead of quitting I put some more work into a prototype home group member list for my Home Group. That way, if a newcomer is looking for a helping hand we can provide this list to those who are Honest, Open and Willing to Recover. And for that, this small piece of Service work, I'm responsible.
Glad to hear from a fellow Pennsylvanian. And, as this day winds down, I didn't quit either.
Yours in Recovery, Mark B.
Sometimes some of us do it minute-by-minute until that FEAR subsides..

Good point Mark..
From newcomers very early in sobriety to oldtimers going through rough
patches and transitions...
Emotions can be raw and overwhelming....this reminded me of lyrics of a song
(can't recall the guy that did it)
Sometimes when we touch
The honety's too much
And I have to close my eyes
And hide
I wanna hold you till I die
Till we both break down and cry
I want to hold you
Till the FEAR in me subsides...
When those emotions get to be overwhelming...hug yourself tight..
Hold fast to sobriety..ask someone to help you stand fast...
Until the Fear subsides.
Love,
IO
