30 hours still hurtin

No alcohol for 30 hours....still getting withdrawal symptoms. Muscle pain, stomach upset...no sleep or food for 2 days. I'm really tired but just can't seem to sleep. Hungry...but can't keep anything down. Anxious/ emotional...edgy. Anybody know generally how long this takes or anything I can do about it? Thanks

49 hrs and 35 minutes for me

I'm close behind you Robzoloft. My first day was hard..feeling edgy, not able to sleep well. agitated. I'm feeling better today. I've heard some folks say day 3-5 is the hardest though so I'm still on guard. Have you seen a doctor?

Hi Roboz,

Did you talk to your dr before stopping alcohol, because it can be dangerous to do on your own.

And, yes, the first couple of days are the worst physically and after that, you should begin to feel better.

Hang in there!

Thanks for responding.....I did speak to someone who let me know which symptoms would necessitate an ER visit....thankfully thats not yet the case

Hang in there Rob,

My longest bout with withdrawl (physical) was 10 days ie. shakes, sweats,no sleep, anxiety, feelings of doom.... but that was preceded by almost a 1/2 gallon vodka a day for a while. Usually 3-5 days is the rule, before you no longer think you are going to DIE...If you start feeling real bad, go to the ER , believe me they have seen it before, there is no shame in getting help.........Keep up the hard work....Don't give in......

mine lasted for three or four days and then sleep began to normalize and the shakes, etc., well I didn't find that lasted long. Didn't have the muscle pain either.

Man this alcohol stuff is sure hard on a person!

Hang in there, you will get through it.

Keep in mind this is when the "monster" addict voice will be at its strongest. It will suggest to you "oh come on, just take a drink, it will all go away and you will feel better!" Don;t listen to it, it is a lie.

Hi Rob... try to drink as many fluids as possible. When I first dried out it took about 4 days, and I had a hard time keeping anything down... even water. But if you can, it's a good idea to keep as hydrated as possible.

hang in there. it will get much better.

30 hours again

Thanks everyone for responding....I'm actually at work going through this....I don't know what I was thinking. Part of my old "if I have a job I can't have a problem" mind set. I just ate 3 peanuts (literally) and some water....hopefully I won't retch loud enough for anyone to hear.....god my head and muscles ( back especially) hurt

Wow, you're at work ?!?!?! I'm impressed

I couldn't even hardly get out of bed for 3-4 days, except to go to meetings.

3-5 days is the general rule of thumb. Like BBQ said, 7-10 is not out of the question.

Keep your eye on this up and coming weekend. Set aside the whole weekend to pamper yourself. Get a blanket & some munchies or something and couch it all day in front of the TV. Get lots of fruits & veggies & snacks & gatorade. Your appetite is going to come back with a venagence.

By next Monday you should feel 1/2 way human at least.

It gets better.....

How are you today Rob? You know the score, lots of fluids and eat if you can, try to get some kind of sports drink with electrolytes in (if you can't eat) as water isn't very good at re-hydrating without them.
Keep strong mate, I know what you are going through believe me!

Hang in there rob!! Gatorade does work great. How about some cantelope? Has lots of potassium.

The last time I took detoxifying tablets and drank mineral water with fresh lemon.

Never thought of Gatorade..

Frequent warm showers also helped...the alcohol works it's way out of orifices

and the skin...

Nothing substitutes for medical care. Go to the ER if need be..please.

And Maddie, Kasha, BBQ...prayers for you precious newcomers as well.

Love,

IO
