Angry college student in distress

I am a college student living in Colorado..and just cant seem to stay sober! Alcohol has caused a lot of **** in my life! I hate being this young and having a problem with addiction. I cant seem to get anywhere. I wish i had a family, and a career to save. I feel like it would motivate me. I dont understand what happened...i used to be a big nerd and study hard. I was one of those people you think would succeed. Just had to vent. Thanks

Addiction is a disease that takes over and slowly destroys our lives.

If you want to stop drinking, you can do it. There is lots of support here and information too.

welcome, rfanchnyc - i'm glad you found us! i usually send pretty much the same post to new younger members - so here goes...

my daughter is 22, and suffered with alcohol and drug addiction since she was about 17, until she found recovery 120 plus days ago.

it affected her in school, relationships, finances, and she kept finding herself in and out of trouble with the law - poor decision making due to her disease. her health was starting to be poor, and she was suffering from depression and guilt.

she went through rehab and now lives in a sober living halfway house. she has a part-time job and some money in the bank. she has new friends and a great support group through daily aa meetings, some meetings just for younger people. she wakes up everyday and does her best to do the next right thing. she now feels she has her YOUTH BACK. she laughs and plays and goes out and socializes. she stays away from her past using friends, and spends time with other folks working good aa programs. she'll be completing college next fall. she has choices, self respect, and peaceful days again. we (her family) are very proud of her.

addiction does not discriminate against age. you're smart to be recognizing your challenge at a young age. recovery is possible. please don't be afraid to ask for the help you need, from family and professionals in your community or on your campus.

i wish you peace and happiness in your recovery.

blessings, k

Hi and Welcome!

Here is my suggestion...find info on the disease of alcoholism.

My favorite resource on alcoholism is
"Under The Influence"
and it has a sequel..."Beyond The Influence"

Both can be ordered from Amazon.

We also have excerpts from "Under"
Please click
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...influence.html

Take care...keep posting...ask questions

Hi rfna & welcome
_______________
Alcoholism knows no age limits, it takes us when it wants, then when we have realy had enough of its torment some of us find a power strong enough to outwit its cunning ways.Try to be strong enough to say no to even one drink, then with sobriety you'll achieve a succesful career of your choice and be clear to tackle life on lifes terms. keep posting on SR it will keep you focused on your goal.

You better watch what you wish for. You said you wished you had a famally to quit for. If you only knew what I for one have put my famally through I do not think you would say that. Get help now, ad live a happy life. Do not follow our paths.

hey student.....

no matter the age or situation....you still have alot to lose within yourself......
but there are people in the rooms of alcoholics anonymous who will understand what you are going through and can help. i am a little older then you and in school with some time under my belt, but school can be demanding and i often turn to my sponser friends and meetings when school gets overwhelming. check to see if you have a meeting on campus, i know we just started one where i go to school and its amazing to have that support right on campus.
good luck
