DQ when I find out some shocking news about my in-laws "family secret"!!! Example: After he and her got divorced, her brother told him that she was a lesbian and had an affair with his wife!!!

DQ adjusting my mother's feelings and my feelings by erasing her guilt and shame and eliminating my anger by making sure we didn't give her a gift after she told me on the phone before I picked her up for a visit to my house that she feels guilty and bad that she didn't give us a gift due to her condition!!!

A little awkward on the way I handled it; but a sure way to have a peace of mind for both her and me!!! I withheld my gift for her to make both of us feel better!!! Not because to get even or tit for tat!!!

But because she never would've let it go on how guilty she feels every time I visit her in the future; therefore causing me to get angry because I would tell her it's ok but she still would not let it go!!!
