Happy Toasted Marshmallow Day! I thought maybe I'd revive the food of the day post on the 24 hour thread. It's a tasty way to get through the day. Are you longing for some factoids about this gelatinous puff of sweetness? Boom!
This confection is the modern version of a medicinal confection made from Althaea officinalis, the marshmallow plant.
Not all marshmallows are vegan, most marshmallows contain eggs or animal based gelatin.
The marshmallow is a confection that, in its modern form, typically consists of sugar, corn syrup, water, gelatin that has been softened in hot water, dextrose, vanilla flavorings, and sometimes coloring, whipped to a spongy consistency.
The marshmallow probably first came into being as a medicinal substance, since the mucilaginous extracts comes from the root of the marshmallow plant, Althaea officinalis, which were used as a remedy for sore throats.
Concoctions of other parts of the marshmallow plant had medical uses as well, including reducing stomach acid, treatment for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and soothing eczema and contact dermatitis.

Well well, it's marshmallow day. I can get behind that. Maybe have some marshmallows with that artful cake and lovely ice cream- yum.

I appreciate all the kind thoughts from everyone. I have had primary chronic insomnia for over 25 years. Drinking certainly didn't help. I no longer worry but do feel the dentimental effects over these many years. After seeing 2 sleep doctors and several other specialists and knowing every trick in the book, I still suffer. I do manage to sleep every couple of days for 1-3 hours. I will find a solution. Drinking will not be it.
