I got drunk we stay sober

Happily sober since April 6, 1986, so I am celebrating 28 years and 2 months today.

I did it by learning to listen to a group of people like us who teach me how to love myself by loving one another with the kingdom of God in your hearts.

Thanks for your service Deeker et al. People have come into and gone out of my life who will always be here as long as I am here.

Congrats to all who celebrate today, and if nobody told you that they love you today, I do.

“When you push someone's head under water for 5 minutes, they will drown. It doesn't matter if the person is a sinner or a saint. It's just a natural process. If their head is under water, the lack of oxygen will make them drown. That rule applies to everyone, good or bad, equally. It doesn't matter if the drowning person has strong moral fiber.

And it doesn't matter if you're a good or a bad person, once you become addicted to drugs. What happens next is inevitable. It's a natural process that happens in everyone's brain, once the drugs take over. So don't ever fool yourself into thinking that only weak or bad people get addicted.”
― Oliver Markus, Sex and Crime: Oliver's Strange Journey
How true.

I've met some very special good, wonderful and amazing people on SR and I'm grateful to all of you for things you've given me

Forward we go for another 24 - 6.52PM Friday

I'm in for 24 more hours of sobriety at 5:40am in the low country. Praying for strength as this weekend holds some triggers for me, as well as prayers for all on this journey of ours.

It's 4:53 am here in Milwaukee and I'm in for another sober 24.

A couple of big-time sober anniversaries today (June 6):

grtgrandpa - 28 years and 2 months
Dee74 - 7 years and 2 months

Gramps, thanks for showing us young-uns how it's done

Dee, thanks for your tireless service to SR. Your modesty is surpassed only by your kindness.

To everybody else, no matter if you've got 28 years like Gramps, 28 months, 28 days or 28 hours, you're ALL special as long as you keep on keepin' on!

Just for Today
The Choice is Mine...

  1. Just for today I will try to live through this day only, not tackling all of my problems at once. I can do something at this moment that would discourage me if I had to continue it for a lifetime.
  2. Just for today I will try to be happy, realizing my happiness does not depend on what others do or say or what happens around me. Happiness is a result of being at peace with myself.
  3. Just for today I will try to adjust myself to what is and not force everything to adjust to my own desires. I will accept my family, my friends, my business, my circumstances as they come.
  4. Just for today I will take care of my physical health; I will exercise my mind; I will read something spiritual.
  5. Just for today I will do somebody a good turn and not get found out. If anyone knows of it, it will not count. I will do at least one thing I don't want to do, and I will perform some small act of love for my neighbor.
  6. Just for today I will try to go out of my way to be kind to someone I meet. I will be considerate. I will not engage in unnecessary criticism or finding fault, nor try to improve or regulate anybody except myself.
  7. Just for today I will have a plan. I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests - hurry and indecision.
  8. Just for today I will stop saying, "If I had time." I never will find time for anything. If I want time, I must take it.
  9. Just for today I will have a quiet time of meditation wherein I shall relax and seek truth.
  10. Just for today I shall be unafraid. Particularly, I shall be unafraid to be happy, to enjoy what is good, what is beautiful, and what is lovely in life.
  11. Just for today I will not compare myself with others. I will accept myself and live to the best of my ability.
  12. Just for today I choose to believe that I can live this one day.

I saw this and I liked it. Today 2,3, 11 are meaningful to me. Add the word sober to the end of #12 - this I follow each and every day, one day at a time.

With that I sign in for 24 more hours - 5:45am on Friday.

Congratulations Grtgrandpa and thank you for all the kind words you post here.

Congratulations Dee! You are the rock start of this site and your kindness and encouragement mean so much to so many, including me!

I look forward to reading this thread every morning and am grateful for everyone who posts here.

Templebren - I will think of you this weekend as you face situations that are triggers.
