Welcome Midnight BLue and Elihoping. It's great to get to one year- I am still reminded about that feeling of "what now" after having "something" to aim for. I have learned however that with some attention and care the joys of sobriety do continue to multiply.

The CD's and Photo scanning will have to wait!!!- the jeans have however been hemmed- and in the absence of a personal shopper (who has one of those??????) attention to the wardrobe will occur.

I had a dream I got made redundant so today I do appreciate having employment more so than usual (LOL)-

Good morning Overs from me here in a cold, wet and windy U.K.

Welcome to the 'Overs' Elihoping, congratulations, I'm fairly new here too and they are a good supportive bunch of people.

Good morning Rusty, did you have a good week end?

Yay Midnight, I saved a place for you here with me and it won't be too long before the other 'Undies' will be joining us.

Hi Instant, gosh what a dream! Do we get to see a photo of you in your new jeans, give us a twirl.

Bye for now

Grace xxx

Grace, I think Rusty's referring to his local flea market, although I CAN picture him as the ring-master of a flea circus, or possibly jamming with Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Ok, question for the group. Apologies if it's already been talked about. Did anything change for you after your first year? Any new challenges or things you did? I'm thinking of learning to cook. I still eat an awful lot of junk food and don't really exercise. I also want to focus on keeping a cleaner house. Basic self-care that I've never really taken care of even in sobriety. What did you guys do?

Yes, definitely Eli!!

My first year was pretty much about staying sober. But at some point I looked around and thought, Now what? So I started playing the ukulele a lot (until then I had just sort of fooled around with it); I even joined a uke club that meets for weekly jam sessions. I sought out more responsibility at work. I started exercising more, and reading more too, including a lot of classical literature and philosophy, the kind of stuff assigned in college. I refinished the floors in my house last year, this year I fixed up the back yard, I started practicing meditation... and on it goes, hopefully forever!

Basically, it's like this: I quit drinking.... and then things started getting really interesting.

It's great to see you and Midnight here!!!!!!!

This is how I feel too. It's as though every day I'm discovering things about the world I never noticed before. When I was drinking it felt as though I had a hood up over my head all the time to shut the world out, when I first gave up it was though I was wearing blinkers and I was focused only on the road ahead and staying sober. Now...well I'm totally free to do as I please.

I've taken up meditation, I go to the gym (occasionally), I go for walks and appreciate nature, I am on my own personal therapy journey. It's as though I'm living in a parallel universe to the one I was on before. Interesting. Yes, that's the word.

But I still haven't learned to cook. I'm still waiting for that miracle to happen!

Welcome to Elihoping and MB. Great to have you with us x

I think in year 2 there was a growing awareness and confidence in what was possible- I started to really trust myself again, and started to get some self respect back. I have still not got on top of all the things that were neglected. I did my back taxes in the second half of my first year, and have been working my way through other stuff when laziness allows. I have done stuff I would never have dreamed of a few years ago. I now ride my bike, play in a band and do more strategically at work whilst keeping on top of my primary work. I do more with my children and family- overall life got easier in year 2.

eli, after my first year, my first sponsor suggested i learn something new

he wanted a chess partner, and i wanted nothing to do with it.

at about the same time, someone bought a new puter and gave new their old one.

i freaked!

as technology was on my first resentment list.

once i found out i could record music and burn them to a disk, i said let me give this a whirl.

well in a few months i was ahead of the person teching me.

got'a love that alcoholic perfectionism and all or nothing attitude.

yep, liabilities into assets!

i now make my living on the net, and have my own recovery website!
