Hi Green!
Does she attend meetings and have a home group?
In NA we celebrate our members clean time with keytags for the first year then metal coins which are given at the home group members anniversary celebration.

oops I need to clarify that.. The 20th anniversary of NA at which he spoke.
Jimmy called himself a recovered addict then went on to clarify that it was an individual choice. recovered in the sense that he was no longer suffering from the desire but that he still needed to do the daily spiritual maintenance.

It is important to remember that NA has a philosophy that the rest of the world does not necessarily believe in.
Our belief that we suffer from an incurable disease that can be arrested, not cured is not subscribed to by all others.
We need to respect other's views as we would like them to respect our view.

I just asked a question!! I was curious and had not heard the term used before. I was not trying to disrespect anyone's view. Just asked a question.
I have not heard Jimmy K. or anyone else for that matter use the term "recovered". Doesn't mean they didn't say it, just that I wasn't hip to it.
I know what NA says about recovery and the lifelong journey...I also know about addiction and the many different ways of treatment. I am not so closed in my personal recovery as to not understand other modalities of treating addiction.
Again, I just asked a question...
Peace

Hi Shakur
I was not implying that you were disrespecting anyone's view.
>I also know about addiction and the many different ways of treatment.<
Given this, I am surprised that you haven't heard the term 'recovered' used in connection with addicts.
Anyway, some people who give up drugs believe that they have recovered and do not need ongoing treatment.
There are doctors and therapists and treatment programs that promote that belief.
Jimmy K did not believe that he was 'recovered' in that same sense, only that we are (for now) recovered from 'active' addiction ....he definately believed that we need ongoing treatment through living the NA program and attending NA meetings.
Sorry for the confusion,
Hugs

Peace,
Good lookin' out Richie. I just didn't want you to think I was being a smart a**.
I have heard many people talk about being ex-addicts/alcoholics, etc. The term "recovered" was a new one on me (really!). But, now that you mentioned it. I think I recall a client saying to me that she had "recovered from her addictions". So, I apologize if I came off wrong (not my intentions).
Still livin' and learnin' my man!
Much love to ya'...
