Mental health awareness day
Today is mental health awareness day in uk. Apparently one in four people have a mental health problem in the uk at any given time. Also black people are 4x more likely to be sectioned and 58% of people on benefits describe their mental health as poor.
How do you deal with mental health challenges that you have?
For me I go walking, have daily contact with my HP. Goto AA meetings on the internet, and partake in a UK based mental health forum. Of course I post here too. Sometimes I call a crisis line. There are two in uk that I use fairly frequently. One of them has a webchat option. I also see a mental health carer usually twice a week.
Im doing my best now I’m sober (20 days) to expand my hobbies as mindful type exercises, but that’s a work in progress.
Im seeing a therapist also which helps a fair bit. I am also anti depressants (fluoxetine) but I’m not really sure if they do anything or not.
For me mental health is usually a challenge at least 70% of the time.

Most importantly I "treat" my mental health challenges with spirituality and fellowship with AA, church, prayer, meditation, and surrounding myself with other alcoholics and addicts, those who think and behave like I do.
I think that expanding our hobbies is a great idea. I probably have way too many I like cooking, fishing, hunting, playing guitar, bicycling, working with my hands, and I'm pretty sure I work too much, in my spare time I like to work at sporting events and concerts, the crowds and energy relieve me of any anxiety or depression.

How do I deal with my mental health challenges?
I exercise. I chant. I breathe. I talk. I do nothing. When things get real bad I come on here and post about it. The members here have helped me through some GIANT episodes of anxiety and rumination.
I find all sorts of other things to do and sometimes those "other things are helpful.....sometimes not. I have some amino acids that help at times. Some herbs. Now that I am aware of the waves I just ride them until I crash back onto the shore. Its epic at times. These waves can last a few days. Nothing that will kill me.......I just get real real heady and loopy for a bit Its a hole.
I used to drink copious amounts of wine. My drug of choice made EVERYTHING in my life unmanageable and terrible. Now I have an opportunity every single day to make my life better and my mental health healthier...... Its all a work in progress.
Keep on fighting the good fight and keep on winning! You got this!
