Paranoia..when are you in trouble
I have had problems with anxiety during my drinking and in my sobriety. One thing I seem to get more and more these days is paranoia. I will hear people talking in the distance and to me it actually sounds like they are talking about me. I don't know if they actually are or if Im hallucinating it. It scares me a little and gets me very upset and anxious. It is usually people I know like my neighbors and such. I think they really are saying horrible things about me but when I tell somebody about it like my sister she says im imagining it. what do you guys think. Has anyone else experienced paranoia?
I experience paranoia. It usually accompanies other symptoms of my mental illness as well. It tends to creep up on me, and is certainly an annoyance and can get to a point where it is somewhat crippling.
I find that making a daily to do list, sticking close to my recovery work, etc...basically keeping life as normal as possible helps keep it in check, because I am not feeding it. I do reality checks, sit down and tell myself or even write down the facts I know. This helps me distiguish whether something is paranoia and I can move past it/dismiss it, or it if is a situation that I should address.
I've been having quite a bit of paranoia lately. Have had to do a LOT of ,stop, breathe, reality check, make an action plan. But it really does help.
