Prozac - early sobriety
I just had a doctor's appt today and was prescribed 40 mg of Prozac for my depression. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this in early sobriety? I am on my 13th day of no drink. Thanks!
I take anti dep. and I think it really helped me in early recovery. Just take it as prescribed. If it doesn't help check back with your doctor because sometimes it takes a little adjustment to get the med/dose right. Congrats on your sober time!!!

I once was prescribed Prozac after about 6 months of sobriety in the early days of my dual diagnosis treatment. I went from being a depressed wreck of a sober person to someone that could finally manage my mental illness in sobriety. I experienced the theriputic effects of Prozac after about 3 to 4 weeks of taking my first dose.
It takes 4-6 weeks to adequately assess if the antidepressant is working. Getting past the side effects is the worst part.
Prozac was one I couldn't handle.
I've been on Cymbalta for about 3 years now.
