Counting my blessings

I used to spend all of my time counting my problems. This morning I'm going to take a little time to count my blessings instead. Here is everything I have to be grateful for...

1- a loving family
2- parents who never gave up on me
3- siblings who are willing to forgive me
4- my 2 1/2 yr old niece who I almost lost cuz of my addiction
5- two nephews from out of state who I get to see in July
6- a boyfriend who is willing to deal with my baggage
7- my close friends who know me and understand me
8- my 14 yr old cat Arthur and my other baby Kiki (also a cat)
9- finally receiving disability benefits after years of filing appeals
10- my counselor of 6 years who I can be 100% honest with
11- my doctor of 17 years who never gave up on me
12- a fresh start, new address, phone #, email
14- a checking account with actual money in it
15- credit cards that aren't over the credit limit anymore
16- not having to prostitute myself to get by anymore
17- not owing any drug dealers hundreds of dollars
18- freedom from feeling the need to be high to be ok
19- being healthy despite all of the abuse I put my body through
20- this forum and the support and understanding I've found here

I could go on and on but I think that's a very good start for now. Definitely won't hurt me to come back and read this list now and then whenever I start thinking that a drink or drug sounds like a good idea. I'd say based on this list I have a lot to lose if I go back down that road.

That's an impressive list, Amester, and hopefully an excellent motivator

But you forgot to include your new "family" on the list! SR has been a major factor in my sobriety - I hope it is a powerful weapon in yours :

Ooops!

But we're so important, you should have mentioned us twice!
