• Its hard to be grateful when your thoughts are full of resentment, anger and sadness
• Its hard to be grateful when your stomach and body ached from the stress and anguish that consumes you, or your face is swollen from the long nights of crying yourself to sleep.
• Its hard to be grateful when all you feel is hopeless and worthless
• Its hard to be grateful when your Addict (fill in the blank) is home sleeping, or doing nothing, or getting high
• Its hard to be grateful when hates consumes your thoughts, mainly hating yourself for allowing the chaos to consume our life

The only thing I can say is that I am grateful for is that my toilet flushes. Because everything else in my life is a mess and I am tired of cleaning it up.

I try to make an effort to find SOMEthing to be grateful for each day. Some days it's hard and I have to really search. On those days I cling to my basics: I'm grateful that I woke up to live another day, and I'm grateful for simple "Hope". "Hope" is my power word, my favorite word, my "mantra" I suppose you could call it. With hope anything is possible.

start with just that one thing, toilet flushing is great.
Some people dont even have that.

all the things you describe will go away the harder you work.
but if you sit back and just get sober by not drinking those things will creep back in
