Smile What is the best thing about recovery?

So if you could choose one thing about recovery that stands out as being the best for you, what would it be?

I'll start: NO MORE HANGOVERS!!

Wow, great topic. I'm just coming from a gratitude meeting, so I'm reading this at a good time.

I've thought about this and I'll have to say that what hits me tonight about the best thing about my recovery is that I'm not in terror anymore. No more fear of waking up and wondering if my husband is speaking to me based on how I acted the night before, no more fear of waking up in a hospital bed wondering if I've hurt someone, no more fear of my family finding my bottles I stashed away. Just so much fear gone.

I've only been sober 2 years and a couple of months and I know there is so much more to this deal. But man, what a gift so far.

this is not *the* best thing (i'd have to put health and relationships first) but one great thing has been being more relaxed about finances. I don't have to panic about "budgeting" for booze anymore. (Which never worked, btw, and it's insane to think about the things I put behind booze in terms of being "worth money.")

Feeling things now and not numbing out. Even feeling the bad so I can appreciate the good.

The recovery of my senses, all 5 of which I was destroying with drugs & alcohol.

Now utilizing all 5, clean & sober; I can focus on the 6th, and opening my third eye.

And don't forget a growing sense of self-respect, WITHOUT becoming egotistical (sic?).

Being able to remember everything that happened the night before! And not consuming all those empty calories is nice too

being able to look in the mirror in the morning and not seeing a bloated caricature of myself....as for the empty calories? try about 1500-2000 (that's thousand) a day if I drank 8-10 glasses....or almost 14,000 per week....No wonder I was pre-diabetic?????so much sugar in wine.

oh and my hair has stopped the massive shed and is growing back, getting thick again. I pay more attention to what i eat. I take vitamins now....I spend some of the $$ I've saved on a pedicure/manicure.
