The pain... the black outs ... the times I woke up with bruises and busted lips and black eyes.... or woke up in a strange place with no car... or a wrecked one...or woke behind a dumpster, or a parking lot. I'm grateful for these things and so many more the book calls incomprehensible demoralization because if it wasn't for these things, I'd have no reason to be here sober at the age of 34 and may have died a slow death in the bottle instead.
