Clean and Sober
Clean and Sober
It's a movie starring Michael Keaton and I just caught the last five minutes of it. But that was the part I wanted to see again, for the most important quote and lesson from the movie.
Spoiler alert here... He goes to see his sponsor after a fellow AA member dies and he's in his first 30 days of sobriety. His sponsor tells him (I'm paraphrasing here):
"Let me guess. You're feeling responsible. How utterly self important and conceited to think you could control someone elses addiction. What an overblown ego."
It's brutal but it cuts to the chase and highlights codependency (aka co-addiction) perfectly. Hard lessons to learn and a bridge to cross, but life on the other side is much more peaceful
