Going to my first alanon meeting tonight. It's a closed meeting and I couldn't get a hold of anyone to ask if I can join or sign up or whatever. Can someone explain this to me.

My understanding for closed meetings is that if you are involved with a loved one with an addiction, then you are welcome.

Closed meetings are limited to members and prospective members only. The only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend.

Thank you for your support. I need to go and figure all this out on my own with out my boyfriend for now. Well see how it goes. Maybe I'll run for the hills. Maybe I'll stick around.

No need to "join" or "sign up". Just show up. They don't even have membership rosters at Alanon. It is against the traditions.
