my ESH for the day, passed on from a 6 year old little girl.
My daughter was all dressed up in her princess garb yesterday and was belting this out at the top of her lungs arms raised and twirling her dress. Her innocence brought tears to my eyes. I wish I could have videotaped her, but the moment will live forever in my memory.
Later, at dinner....
" mom, when I grow up Im gunna be like Merida from Brave."
"Oh really? Why is that Hermione?" (My pet name for her)
" because she is just like you, ginger hair and all. "
:,D I love her
"The Last Unicorn" America
When the last eagle flies
over the last crumbling mountain
And the last lion roars
at the last dusty fountain
In the shadow of the forest
though she may be old and worn
They will stare unbelieving
at the last unicorn
When the first breath of winter
through the flowers is icing
And you look to the north
and a pale moon is rising
And it seems like all is dying
and would leave the world to mourn
In the distance hear the laughter
of the last unicorn
I'm alive!
I'm alive!
When the last moon is cast
over the last star of morning
And the future has passed
without even a last desperate warning
Then look into the sky where through
the clouds a path is torn
Look and see her how she sparkles
it's the last unicorn
I'm alive!
I'm alive!
* I was raised on the non disneyfied folklore of my grandmother. Unicorns, Faeries and pixies, Harpies, wizards and dragons. I find it ironic that the addict in my life smoked heroin, because my grams always said that there was dark magic, and light magic. Dragons were the most cunning powerful and evil of all creatures of darkness. Hmmmm... chasing the dragon.... Unicorns on the other hand are the most powerful of all white magic, even more so than elves. They represent all that is pure and bright, faithful, honest and true. They endure forever. Nothing can extinguish their light. They can feel sorrow, but never regret. I love how even though she is old and worn she shines. When all is dying she has peace. maybe Disney did get one thing right in their new movie Brave "legends are lessens" at least they are to me.

The real kicker to grandmas stories is that dragons eat unicorns faeries and elves as well as fair maidens and children. They feed on their magic and beauty and it becomes polluted... evil. Even the most powerful of all good beings couldn't defeat the most powerful of dark ones.... Do I believe that addicts are like dragons? No. I believe addiction in itself is one, and codependency as well. I had no clue as a child what those old stories would teach me and my grandma didn't either. But god did.
Lily--I always enjoy reading your perspective. Children are precious.....isn't it nice how your daughter views you as "brave"! Such an innocent and beautiful thing for her to say to you......quite a compliment!
