drinking?
Hi dogged,
You may get many answers to this one. While I don't know whether or not drinking will lead back to drugs, I do believe that someone is not "clean" if they have just switched from one mind-altering substance to another.
How are you doing today?
Hugs, HG

My exabf would always drink heavily when he was trying not to use crack, and, everytime it would lead him back to drugs. He was/is a mean, abusive drunk, drank at home, at least when he went on a drug binge he wasn't home and gone for a few days.

Sorry to say my brother was a meth user and when he would try to stop the meth he would drink heavily. Eventually he always went back to the meth because the alcohol would not give him the high he was searching for.

My XAH said he had to stop drinking because it always led him to use and no matter where he went the Fellow users found him.
Maybe not for all but I think they go hand in hand, either together or seperate

If he's using alcohol as a replacement, he's really just switching out his favorite drug for another drug that seems to do a similar job. Alcohol is seen as a lesser evil socially, but it's really just as harmful as any other substance out there. Either way, he'll either keep drinking to the point where that becomes his main addiction, or he'll switch back over to his DOC (drug of choice). Alcohol isn't a tool that should be used to get clean...it just doesn't work like that.

well i told him if he is going to continue drinkng we will be over,, i cant waste anymore time on a relationship that is going no where. so i left and i havent talked to him since, granted its only been a few days, but i am going to stick with it this, ihave done all that i could for him thier is nothing else left to do the rest is up to him, only he can change what he wants.. right now my focus i s going to be on me,, if he wants to mess up his life again so be it, but i refuse to put my hopes and dreams on hold any longer..
