Why do drug addicts lie so much?

I know he's lying. I just can't prove it. I honestly thought we were friends. Seriously thought about blocking his # w/o telling him to avoid the drama. We had made plans then last minute he made excuses not to hang out. I don't know why I bothered calling him in the first place
