another recovery song
another recovery song
Yesterday afternoon on my drive home I was listen to an "Oldies" (well It was good music to me - probably oldies for some of you younger folks - he he he)
and I heard this song - the lyrics really had me thinking -
I felt this way for so many years about my ex AH, how the obession of trying to make it work, make it better, make that life fit, make it be something it could never be - it was a difficult time - but it was something I had to go thru - I had to give it every try I had in me.
Anyway I thought I would share it with y'all today
Reason to Believe by Rod Stewart
If I listened long enough to you
I’d find a way to believe that it’s all true
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe
Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never think about myself
If I gave you time to change my mind
I’d find a way just to leave the past behind
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe
If I listened long enough to you
I’d find a way to believe that it’s all true
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe
Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else

Never think about myself

I love music.... and I have always loved that song......... funny what you can make of lyrics, I always thought of that song as betrayal of cheating type of song...but it fits addiciton to a tee huh?!
Funny, right now I'm listening to "need you now" by Lady Antebellum (sp)
It is classic for what we codies go through when seperated from our signifigant others.....it even goes into the 'drunk dialing thing'... I just love it.
The chorus is,
"It's a quarter after one, and I'm all alone and I need you now. Said I wouldn't call but I've lost all control, and I need you now. Another shot of whisky, can't stop stareing at the door, wishing you'd come sweeping in the way you did before, and I wonder if I ever cross your mind, for me it happens all the time...... It's a quarter after 1, I'm a little drunk and I need you now, said I wouldn't call but I've lost all control and I need you now... and I don't know how I can do without.... I just need you now. Yes I'd rather hurt than feel nothing at all....................."
What a song that I can relate to.
Sad but true.
Thanks for the post.

Yes it is odd how at different times in our lives we look at songs in different ways - I could have related to the "Need you now" song too!
This song below to many is about being the other woman - To me it has always been about the addiction of drugs/alcohol - That the "she" in the song is his Drug of Choice, he was always more at home with his addiction than he was with me - even after 16 plus yrs of marriage.
It was the song I held onto when I knew it was time to tell him to stay with the drugs, I was leaving. . .
Stay by Sugarland
I've been sitting here staring at the clock on the wall
And I've been laying here praying, praying she won't call
It's just another call from home
And you'll get it and be gone and I'll be crying
And I'll be begging you, baby, beg you not to leave
But I'll be left here waiting with my heart on my sleeve
Oh, for the next time we'll be here
Seems like a million years and I think I'm dying
What do I have to do to make you see she can't love you like me?
Why don't you stay? I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely, don't I give you what you need?
When she calls you to go, there is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way, baby, why don't you stay? Yeah
You keep telling me, baby there will come a time
When you will leave her arms and forever be in mine
But I don't think that's the truth
And I don't like being used and I'm tired of waiting
It's too much pain to have to bear to love a man you have to share
Why don't you stay? I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely, don't I give you what you need?
When she calls you to go, there is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way, baby, why don't you stay?
I can't take it any longer but my will is getting stronger
And I think I know just what I have to do
I can't waste another minute after all that I've put in it
I've given you my best, why does she get the best of you?
So next time you find you wanna leave her bed for mine
Why don't you stay? I'm up off my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely, you can't give me what I need
When she begs you not to go, there is one thing you should know

She Can't Save Him ------Reba Mcentire - with Trisha Yearwood
She can hear his car as it pulls in the drive
She can whisper a prayer, thank God he's alive
She can meet him at the door and catch him when he falls
She can even believe that it isn't his fault
But she can't save him
She can make his coffee in the cold light of day
She can make his excuses, tell the boss he'll be late
She can wave at the neighbors, kiss him goodbye
And not say a word 'bout what happened last night
But she can't save him
Sometimes she dreams that he's caught in a stream
And the water keeps pulling him down
She reaches for him as he pulls her in
She wakes just before she drowns
But she can remember the man that he was
And still shed a tear for what he's become
She can live in that house, until the day
She sees that it's only herself she can save
'Cause she can 't save him
And that day she'll know, she hasn't failed
'Cause nothing can change until he saves himself
'Cause she can't save him
No, she can't save him
No, she can't save him
