Smile A Big Reason to be Grateful

I just realized that this month is my one yr. anniversay here at
Sober Recovery. I have much to be grateful for these days. Near the
top of my list is the support, camaraderie, wisdom, courage + hope that is
exchanged here.

Recovery is a funny thing. I sought it reluctantly as a result of
great pain. Those of us that love addicts initally think the pain will subside when we gain
enough control to get "them" into recovery.

We come to learn that it is just as much about ourselves. We gain control of our own happiness, our own spiritual path, our own growth, our own lives, our choices, our own character defects, our own recovery and our need to control. We learn to accept the things we cannot change and we change the things we can.

Thank you everyone for helping me get it, grow in it and give it.

Good afternoon friends,
Thanks Lobo for REMEMBERING my son. I didn't mention him at the beginning of the thread because I celebrate my own journey this month. But since you did, I proudly
add that to the list of what I am celebrating this month. My son has been in treatment and sober for 10 weeks...HALLELUJAH !!!! I do notice that my energy level is significantly greater now that I have no worry wrapped into his story.

I just spent my second night in a cute sunny rented townhouse. For four yrs. I have wanted to remodel my own house but the thought of packing up and getting out
for the work to get done was too overwhelming for me. Well, I mustered up the the
strength to get it done. My house if officially under construction. One by one I am doing
all the chores that this entails and I am no longer overwhelmed but rather excited
by the challenge.

You know Spiritual, I think when the stress of our kids settles down we can acomplish so much. I have been putting off cleaning my basement for so long just because it seemed too overwhelming to me. With the stress of my daughter I just managed to keep up with the basics and go to work. Since she is doing so well, I have really felt motivated to get things done. Yep, got the basement finished and got rid of a whole load of odds and ends. I just stepped back and looked at it today and I was so happy with myself.
Next is the garage. It is just time to put our own lives in order.

Sounds like you are on a roll. I bet your place will bring you much happiness and comfort when it's done. How nice!

Glad to hear your son is also on a roll.

Each day really is a reason to celebrate.
I just returned from a beach walk and lunch with my best friend.
Do you agree that life is great?
I am going to try doing a gratitude list at the end of ea. day. For yrs. I have heard of people doing this but never could get myself to start. Today I will start.

It's always a pleasure to read your posts and responses....

when I read about your walk on the beach and the lunch you shared with your friend I wished I could have joined you! I think it must have been a great conversation

I am so happy your son is doing well...I continue to pray that all our children will find their way to recovery....

it is so good to know that you are reclaiming your own precious life

WOW! You're just the big ray of sunshine I needed to hear from today!

I had a rough night at work, but am already working on my gratitude list and it's getting me out of my funk.

Glad that your son is doing well, and that sounds really neat about getting your house redone. I do envy your walk on the beach, because I LOVE the beach. Something about hearing and watching the ocean....makes all my troubles seem so small, they just float away.

Here's to another year of your wonderful ES&H here at SR.

Hugs and prayers!

Amy
