Update on AS in Rehab
As I posted earlier, after a week of detox, my son went to rehab for 28 days. Went to visit twice, all went well and they have him set up at a halfway house when he leaves. I'm driving him down there so we can spend some time together.
But about 5 days he was rushed to the local hospital with a partially collapsed right lung. He developed a perforation that effected his upper right lung. Doctor says it can happen, smoking affects it as does drug use. I felt so bad for him...and he felt bad to. He told the Doctor/nurses he's an addict so the pain meds were few and far inbetween. They did have to give him some meds as his blood pressure got dangerously high from the pain.
I was proud that he tried to avoid pain meds..Anyway he's back in rehab, coming out Sat. Jan 2 and then it's to the halfway house.
I'm praying for him....Cautiously Optomistic.. Also going to Naranon again tonight...work those steps
Prayers To All. :ghug

If they could only know how much we hurt when they hurt.....
It's good that you are going to a meeting. Taking care of yourself is vital. Perhaps this will open his eyes....kids always think they are immortal....
Lots of positive energy headed your way.

I used to cringe when my niece would cough , her lungs sounded awful for someone 28 years old , but seven years of smoking crack really did some bad damage to her body . It's sooo true what Babs posted , if they only knew about how much we hurt . It's a good sign he was resisting pain meds though. Good Luck .
Hang in there dad ! Thankfully, you son dodged this bullet.
You're son is fragile in his recovery, but he is doing it- yea for him !!!!!
You are growing right along side of him- Yea for you !!!
My son, the addict, told me today that he has no regard for his health. Hard to imagine isn't it?? That is the by-product of addiction.

HurtingDad,
To me it says a whole lot when they come to the hospital and admit to me they're an addict, and want only non narcotic pain medication. (
Sometimes even I have to shake my head and think, "uh oh this ss going to hurt" )
It shows me they are truly dedicated to staying in recovery.
Hope he mends fast.
Working at the hospital, I have see quite a few spontaneous pneumothorax..
From what I hve seen, it just seems to occur most in young adolecent boys, or young adult males, frequently.
Prayers to you, and prayers for your son...

hi dad,
I will say a prayer for you and your son. I pray that his resolve only gets stronger and how very proud I am of you for going back to your meetings. I have read your posts and your love and concern really shines through for your son. I am walking the same path you are and I gain a lot of encouragement from your posts. I am wishing you both all the best........dixie

Glad he's doing better. I've got to agree with Moose about admitting he is an addict. As a recovering addict, I can tell that that is a HUGE step he took! And as a former nurse, I can say that if he had to have a chest tube put in, I totally admire him because a chest tube was always at the top of my "I don't want" list!
I know he is still new to recovery, but I think this was a good example that he is serious about recovery. Good for you, for keeping up with the meetings!
Hugs and prayers!

Praying for your son that even that little bit of pain meds wont' set off his disease - and kudos for him to be so brave and honest with the doctors and nurses. I know this is not an easy thing to do from personal experience.
Hey Hurting Dad,
Well I see DOUBLE recovery right here. Son doing the next right thing and you continuing with your meetings and your recovery. I say ya'll both get "A's" for today...
Prayers for him and you, Dad.
Hugs,

Thanks everyone for your kind words and prayers. I am sleeping better knowing he's safe and trying to keep 'stinking thinking' out of my thoughts. (such as what if he slips again, what if he can't find a job, what if......)
You all know what I'm talking about. I'll keep the group posted.
Prayers...:ghug3

WOW, he admitted to being an addict, what a major accomplishment.
I hope he starts to feel better soon, as I'm sure he will, but I'm just so happy for you and him that he's trying so hard.
woohoo!!!

So glad to hear he's on the mend. That, I'm sure, was very scary.
Admitting to being an addict was such a big accomplishment for him.
You just keep doin' what your doin', guy.
Sounds like you have this recovery thing down pat. Good for you.
