Is anyone familiar with halfway houses?

I was just wondering if anyone is familiar with halfway houses? My daughter is halfway through her 28 day rehab and is trying to get into a halfway house. She has called one house everyday this week, sometimes 2 times a day and never reaches anyone. She leaves a message and has only got 1 call back but she was in a meeting and wasn't able to be reached. Is this a common thing that they are hard to reach? She seems to be doing so so. At times I think she is starting to change her mind and want sobriety and then times I think she looks at it as better than a jail sentence. But with each day of sobriety I hold out hope. Try to think of myself and not the problems she has. Still struggling everyday. Thanks for your support!!!

i think taht it would be a good idea for your daughter to keep trying but also have a backup plan just in case, there should be more than that one halfway house in your area, i would think. there is a lot of them in my surrounding area, im in atl. i pray that she finds something and i do agree that would good if she could go to a halfway house, it beat jail, i think too.

Hi Frustrated.

I have lived in and worked at halfway houses. Some are better than others. Ask local addiction treatment providers for referrals. Maybe the local mental health department may have some info. Ask the halfway house owner/manager to keep a record of your daughters drug testing for you and stop by yourself often during visiting hours, become friendly too and talk to some of the residents. Get to know the people that will be with your daughter, not for information on your daughter but some addicts have lost contact with their own family and could use a little friendship from a parent.

Halfway houses can be a good influence on you daughter especially when she see the commitment of her peers towards recovery.

Peace
Zencat.

Hi - Oxford houses are all over the country and may be a good possibility. Does she have a counselor in her rehab who can help her out with recommendations? Often the counselors work with the clients to make the arrangements and that way if they have to leave a message it's easier to get the call back. Prayers that she takes advantage of this opportunity.

My son had a hard time finding one in the vicinity he wanted, but we only tried calling on one day and found one that would see us. That ended up being the one he moved in to. Many have waiting lists. I would try googling sober living homes and see what comes up.

Good luck to you!
