When Your Hut is On Fire...
When Your Hut is On Fire...
One day the only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.
Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect himself from the elements, and to store his few possessions.
One day, after scavaging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, "God! How could you do this to me?"
Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island. It had come to rescue him!
"How did you know I was here? asked the weary man of his rescuers.
"We saw your smoke signal" they replied.
The moral of the story:
It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground...It just may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God.
This message came in an email to me today.
It warmed my heart.
Happy Friday everyone!!

This reminds me of a similar story.....
There was a man who believed in God and always believed that God would solve all his problems because he was such a believer.
One day there was a flood and as the water got higher and higher the man prayed to God to save him.
Someone came by in a raft and told him to hop on it, he would save him from the flood. The man said no, that God would help him.
The water got higher. Someone came by in a boat and said hop in, we will save you. The man said no, God would help him.
Later when the water was almost covering the man's house and he was on the roof a helicopter flew over and threw him a rope and said grab on we will save you. The man said no, God will save me.
Well, the water rose so high the man drowned.
When he got to Heaven he saw God and asked him, "All my life I believed in you and believed that you would always be there for me, why didn't you save me from the flood?"
God answered "I sent a raft, a boat and a helicopter, what more did you want?"
Lesson: God helps those who helps themselves. He can't do ALL the work!
