Physical stress showing

Have any of you developed any problems due to the stress of living with A, aprat from slight depression which probably goes without saying, I started to lose my hair about a year and half ago and its getting worse and worse, before I found out about my AH I thought it might be due to slight stress of our relationship, I went to see a professional at the famous Harley Street in London and paid a fair bit of money and I had a biopsy on my scalp and they actually couldnt work out why my hair was falling out???? now finding out about my AH I am wondering if this is a syptom of the stress of living with him and for so long I didnt know what was wrong with him as he made me think I had a problem...anyone else had similar experiences?

Red face yep

Definately me! I've noticed my hair is dull and I'm constantly on edge... I also have digestive problems it seems. Oh, and I'm forgetful! I feel mentally dead. From what I've read, this is all fairly common. HTH!

Are you taking any Rx drugs or Herbs.??
Do you use dye or rinse in your hair. Some shampoo's are bad, try baby shampoo.
Just suggestions, and see a dermitologist.

I developed many stress related problems due to living in an alcoholic household. Once I started on my own recovery, I am happy to say all of those physical problems are gone.

Yes, I've noticed a change in my moods. I'm actually considering going to a counselor. I already have been diagnosed with some depression/anxiety, and really don't need it to go any further than that.

Rx is our shorthand for prescription drugs perscribed by your Dr. like anti-depressants, anti-anxity etc, I just wanted to rule out those things, as can affect some of us, however as the others have said, getting serious about our recovery helps so very many things. Start with relaxing now, and let his problems be his problems. I know we all wanted to help and fix, hard to turn loose of that, but no one has found a better way yet.
Herbs, no I would never suggest. Good addiction counselor would be good, it would help you the most. Keep us posted.

Yes......HBP and fast heart rate on top of the "usual" depression.

Both our children have had anxiety and depression issues and were on short-term medication for awhile and my daughter (18y) has had several episodes of losing her hair, too. We found a vitamin formula at the regular vitamin rack for "thinning hair" and she takes that sometimes and it really seems to help her.

p.s. AH hasn't even lived in the same house as us for quite sometime and we still have these problems although not so much now since we are involved in our own recovery and keeping better boundaries and detatching from much of his crazy-making.

Good luck....get rest and exercise, too. It helps. (The kids and I are all working out regularily now, too.)

Jen - I never experienced any physical signs of depression until my husband left us..up until then I was just living life as ususal...it was after that got the best of my looks...Sleep deprivation, loss of appetite, weight loss, bags under the eyes, lack of interest in everything and everyone. But then he left me holding all responsibility, the bills, house, kids, work...everything. I am managing now after 10 months but still cry everyday and miss him terribly. Don't get me wrong though - there are no do overs when it comes to infidelity with me...doesn't mean I can't cry though...
Give yourself time and your problem with resolve itself okay. Maybe an anti-depressant is in order - what do you think?

Jen u should have your thyroid gland checked. A few years ago I too was losing hair, the doc. ran a few blood tests and discovered I do have a thyroid condition. Pregnancy can also cause hair to fall out. I hope u are feeling better soon. Kerry

Jen

Thank you for raising this.

I have digestive problems, enormous loss of hair, lack of appetite and lost weight, I can't put any weight on.

I had all possible tests done, tyroid, calcium, liver function, kidney function, iron, everything, including one to see if i developed an intolerance to wheat... All the test are normal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It all started two years ago, when i got together with my Alcoholic/addict partner...

Love Jo

Oh Yes, a multitude of physical symptoms, back, abominal and anxiety through the roof. Stress can cause hair loss. My Sisterinlaw experienced hair loss from stress. She tested negative for any other causes.

I'm female, and I've had thinning hair for a long time, but it got really bad last year, with the inhuman stress I was under. My daughter was at various itmes hospitalized, committed to a psych ward, placed in lockup by police, etc...

My head started to look so bad, I had to do something.

I am curently using a masking product. I buy the dark brown colour, which matches my hair color, and rub it into my scalp. When I style my remaining hair, and use hairspray, I look somewhat normal again.

It is called "couvre" and I buy it over the internet. One tube lasts me three months. I really recommend this for any females who are suffering from hair loss (and males too)

I've been fortunate as far as hair loss goes. That appears to be a common symptom of stress, from what I reading here. I know my stomach is completely trashed. There are times when I'm okay, but most of the time I don't have much of an appetite, and food that goes in quickly comes back out. Ugh. From all of it, I'm surprised I'm not underweight. I'm not a fat person, but I sure miss wearing all those size 10's in my closet ....

I have a lot of stomach problems and headaches. My MIL had a problem with hair loss after she lost a bunch of wieght quickly.(150 lbs.) It started growing back after she started taking pre-natal vitamins. She wasn't pregnant-the Dr. suggested it because he felt she needed extra vitamins. She got very creative with hats and scarves until it started growing back. Good luck to you.

My hail falls out, but not to the extent of having to go to a doc. I tend to over eat too, but that can't be blamed on anyone but myself either! Have you thought of taking up meditation? Might help a little.
