Quitters Inc.
I remember a guy who ran a dealing yard - nothing to do with where I worked except my boss used to wind up in arguments with him. He'd always be showing some horse 'who's boss' at shows, always at the top of his lungs, always professing the wisdom of his 'no messing' approach.
He was loading a rather large bottomed horse and as usual had wound up in a battle. This chesnut ignored him, just stood there refusing to move, not even one hoof on the ramp. He got louder and started to whip the horse, my boss told him to pack it in, someone went to get the judges. He got louder still but the horse remained rooted. Finally he lost the plot and whacked the horse on it's hocks with a broom handle.
Within the next few seconds I saw the horse fly up the ramp, followed by the git, followed by my boss who returned crying with laughter. He said the mare had sorted it out herself. You could hear the git screaming and cursing but no other bangs and clatters - looking into the box I saw the mare resting on her haunches, neatly squashing him against the wall - still rooted, still not responding to his abuse. She broke a few of his ribs by the time she decided to shift her rump.
The git's attitude didn't change, some people are slow learners as nor did his luck - eventually a horse finished his career with a swift kick to his back, he walks with sticks!!
