preparing for a long journey
Being in the realm of alcoholism and addiction is a long journey. I wasn't prepared for it, and for a long time kept ignoring the road signs that said it's really long.
I'm now grateful for and finding useful:
Being/becoming fit, spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally.
Finding and listening to guides. Those who understand what the journey is like.
Pack light.
Reach out to spend time with healthy travel companions.
Watch my own steps.
Help others, who would like my help. Don't try to force the natives, or anyone else, to change.
Enjoy something, each day.
Take rest breaks along the way.
Look for unexpected discoveries. I thought this trip would be rough and hard. Currently I'm finding it to be very long with many good detours and views, but I have to actively seek them out. They're hard for me to see until I start learning the terrain.
Realize a have a choice about the path I'm on, and being grateful for that.
Knowing I'm not alone.
Life is good.
