My boyfriend is 3 weeks into recovery. He has increasingly become distant from me. We do not live together so we are not in a situation where I would see him everyday. Is this normal behavior for someone in recovery. I want to show him my support but I'm wondering if just leaving him alone is support enough?

Yes, that is normal. Yes, giving him space can be a good way to support him. No expectations placed on him. Maybe a card or little gesture once in a while, just something nice and simple to convey your support. The first year is hard. He will need to place his sobriety before anything else.

Is he actively working a recovery program?

Normal is a setting on your dryer..............that's the only thing normal.

Yes, he is working a program and I want him to put his sobriety first, otherwise there is not chance for us. It's hard knowing how much is too much and how little is too little.

Star, I got out of rehab in nov. I was busy from 6am until 10pm. I focused on myself and my classes/counseling. I called home when I had time, which I rarely did. How long have you been with this guy.
