OT, last dive trip to Cayman

If you guys ever get tired of these feel free to let me know.

Recently went back to Grand Cayman and had a fantastic time. I got to check off another bucket list item. On a night dive I bumped into an Octopus and actually got the bugger on video. I put together a couple "best of clips" and posted on my You Tube page. I just got a new Sony DSC-RX100 that does 1080p video so watch these in HD, full screen

Here's the night dive:

Here's a compilation that starts with a wall dive on the east side of Cayman and ends up at Devils Grotto on the west side. At 1:44 I bumped into a four foot Moray eel in a tight swim through and I was lucky to get what little of him in frame I did.

That was so beautiful and calming. I'm in awe of divers. Don't think I could ever do it with all my anxiety issues. Thanks for letting me experience that !

PADI The Way the World Learns to Dive

I took a PADI Open Water Certification course while vacationing in Jamaica back in 2008. The resort I stayed at had a on site dive operator and it was really easy to incorporate the course into my vacation. Also a very affordable way to get certified. I went back a year later and completed the Advanced Open Water course. I discovered the camera I owned had a underwater housing accessory available and after I had about twenty dives under my belt I started taking my camera on every dive.

Now equipped with a better camera I'm a man on a mission. Next on my list is to get a whale shark on video.

So far I've been able to get in a couple dive trips a year and plan to continue to do so as long as I can afford to and still have my health. Heck this last trip to Cayman I was the youngest guy on the boat for several of the dives! At 54 I was the young buck!! LOL

My plan is to some day soon get back to French Polynesia where the motivation to get certified first hit me and shoot the Rangoria pass. So many dives, so little time.

That's a good question. I was planning on possibly working for a dive operator later in life after this telecom gig dries up. I sure have the spare time so I might as well do it. I was thinking I might even spend a three weeks in Koh Tao and get instructor certified. I would have to be the oldest guy that ever did something like that!

I have a tons of vacation from work to burn and I'm just wasting it right now. I can afford it, but I don't want to go alone. Meh, I probably wont. Maybe next year? I already have a spring trip to the Keys booked, another to Mexico in July and then a fall trip to St. Lucia planned for the rest of this year.

First world problems...

OK now I'm really jealous.
I did open water to Divemaster in Koh Tao then got a job working as Divemaster.
I didn't get paid much but it let me live there for a while, have a roof over my head & food.
One thing about living on an island like that is you realise how little you really need. As long as you have food, shelter & clothing & of course fish you can survive on very little.
That was some time ago & Koh Tao has changed a lot since then, mind you so have I, but the memories will remain with me for a lifetime.
Keep sending the pics, love it.
