Just Worn Out
Started the day msg my sponsor and sponsee.
treated myself to some chicken wings
Got a bit tense on SR about a post concerning detoxing alone.
did some fantasy football and listened to the baseball game.
Had a cookout with neighbors.
Called my mother.
And then the calls started in...just a list...much more involved than I'm writing here...but too tired to write it out...
Sponsee's wife: Would you please come over and talk to him? No.
Police: would you come down to the ER? Yep...be there in 10.
Drunk neighbor: do you have .75 cents? Sure.
Priest: can you go to VA Milwaukee tomorrow? Call me in the morning.
Sponsee: I drank at the Labor Temple. Ok so?
Police: either take him home or he goes to jail. Go to jail.
Sponsor: will you chair the meeting tomorrow? Yes.
You all know what? This might wear me down but it keeps me sane.
I am so thankful I found Alanon.
I think anyone who sponsors an addict/alcoholic should be sentenced to Alanon!!!

Dear Wisc---I think your idea is an excellent one! I wonder if anyone else has thought of this? It is true, I think, about working one-on-one with others in helping or care giving (as in my own profession). It is imminently rewarding--but it is really draining, because all day long, you are putting the needs of another in the forefront. I have found, in my own life, that I had better have my own personal needs met in my personal life--or, it all gets to be too much.
In other words--I hear you!
