What is "late stage" alcoholism?

Hi,
I'm pretty new here, as a former friend of an alcoholic, who has cut off interaction with that person.

I've read the term "late stage" alcoholism here in a couple of threads and wonder what exactly that term means. What actions does a late stage alcoholic display? I'm trying to understand the ins and outs of how alcoholics act.

The guy I know has been an alcoholic for at least 30 yrs., and has displayed a lot of the various actions I've read that others do.

This is an awesome forum, very informative and supportive, I'm glad I found it.

SoberRecovery - Drug Treatment - The Three Major Stages of Alcoholism

This article on the main website page has a brief description. I'm sure others will be along soon with their own take!

Well for me it is when the person I used to worship no longer exists and I find it more and more difficult to recognise him. I guess it is slightly different for most people but for me it means he is neglecting personal hygiene, not eating properly, not getting dressed some days, losing interest in everything, not going out, watching tv, sleeping in the day and not at night, and don't lets go into the verbal abuse and threats...oh and maybe alcoholic blackouts too......this is just my own experience. Also confabulations - making up things.
I did check out the links earlier in the year and both are very very good.

Very interesting reading. I think the person I know is somewhere between middle and end stage alcoholism, he displays characteristics in both categories. Very sad situation when you get like that. Thanks for the links, much appreciated.
