Smile OT: I started Hormone Replacement Therapy today

Took my first pill this past afternoon.

It's 1:30am,( my late night habit) :P...but I'm feeling a little better. Even if it's just because I feel better for having taken action. That in itself relieves quite a bit of stress, which is no small thing.

I'm gonna turn out the lights now....so I'll be back tomorrow.

HRT can change the world :-); makes life worth living again when our brain gets the hormonal coverage it needs. It can take some tweaking and on-going adjustments until we get it right, and it can fluctuate with stress and exercise. It's worth the effort to keep at it; has made a huge difference in my life.
Best wishes to you...

Good on you!!

I've been on HRT for 20 years after a hysterectomy. Getting your endocrine system in balance is key to so much...especially for women. I use a new method of delivery : bio-identical HRT pellets. Little pellets inserted into my hip about once per quarter. They are biologically identical to the hormone your body produces naturally...so non carcinogenic. My body can draw from the pellet exactly what it needs, so it is self-dosing. First time I slept through the night in ten years. No hysteria....the excess weight gain gone. Downside: very few physicians or naturopaths know about this method, sadly, so it takes some work to find one who does.

Good on you for taking care of yourself!

Dear MsGrace, I have heard about the bio-identical HRT, but mainstream physicians look blank when you ask about it.

Can you give me (us) some more information about how to go about finding someone to prescribe it? I Imagine the cost is a bit high?

I have wondered about exploring this as a possibility for myself.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the support and info!
My doc prescribed 90 days worth. I'm to keep in touch with her, inform her of *any* concerns.
She was very emphatic about the possible side effects.

This morning was second dose. Yesterday evening I felt weird...kind of trembly, weak and nauseous. Today I'm alread feeling mild improvement. Really tired too--I think that's from the lack of sleep I was suffering from. I got home from work and crashed!

I'm to see her again end of August. I sure hope she doesn't take me off--I heard somewhere that the goal is to get off it as soon as possible, but that will be right before I go back to work after Summer break. Uh oh....if I get taken off right in time for work, that could be a real problem, since the stress of having to function with all the symptoms was just too much to bear. (I'm a Sign Language Interpreter, so it's kind of like being on stage at full, intense mental and physical performance every assignment you're in).

Boy, this menopause crap sure is BULLSHIrT! It's like Nature says, "Oh, your breeding days are over? Well then, little incubator, we don't care about your quality of life any longer, now do we? Run along now and live the rest of your life in quiet desperation. Ta!"

bumping this back up...Arg, how's it going? are you getting any relief?

thanks to MsGrace, i found a well respected naturopath who specializes in hormone stuff and have an appointment July 2. if i make it that long!!! now that there is more time between cycles PMS is turning into a 2+ week affair. i realized last nite that it's like Groundhog's Day only dark. same pattern, night after night after night. fall asleep at 8 or 9, wake up around 12, 12:30, 1, and then it's ON....roasting hot, miserable, flail around trying to find a comfortable position, if i WAS in the bed, I've since bailed to the couch cuz hank seems to have this sensor that as soon as i wake up he starts snoring. then the bulldog starts snoring. and there's just too much body heat. i doze off and on in 15-20 minute increments. how on earth can one be SO tired and NOT sleep??

this morning my irritability is off the charts. every noise hank made set my teeth on edge...i mean how DARE he yawn? or cough? its like this seething rage, or hormo-cide or something. at the grocery store i found king's hawaian mini sub rolls and made him two adorable little sandwiches for his lunch yesterday and he seemed to like them, so i made them again this morning. THEN he says, so are we doing hoagie rolls for lunch? he's lucky i didn't throw them at his head!!! i'm quietly thinking, please just GO, take your noise and your stupid sandwiches and get out of my face!!!

this is not me. i'm sitting here incubating, and trying to figure out how i'm going to get thru the work day without leaving a wake of dead bodies behind me. after making my appt, i then filled out the 17 page health history form that is required. took me two days...i started it last Friday, and then finished it yesterday. good gravy. even the form itself ticked me off....it's a very pretty form, in word, but when you go to fill in a field, they have the underline thing _________________ instead of being formatted to underline WHAT you type, so me being a bit OCD about stuff like that, spent a lot of time tidying that up. had to strongly RESIST commenting on that. plus there was a section where you rated things on a scale of 0-10, but the stupid form doesn't ADD and that ticked me off.

two weeks. i just gotta hold on for two weeks. and i'm going to barricade myself in the dr's office and state that i'm not leaving until she FIXES me. LOL i might even call to see if there are any openings/cancellations to get me in sooner. i truly am a woman on the edge.

So, let's see, AnvilheadII - you're about 2000 miles away from me... Yep, that should be a safe distance!! No plans to travel to central Ohio anytime soon, eh??

I am and all those who are in close range are a very big fan of my Hormone Replacement Therapy ~

Due to unavoidable circumstances - I had a hysterectomy at age 21 and trust me that was many many many moons ago ~ (28 to be exact - ok get out the calculators)

I have been on different types of HRT but found that the once a month injections work best for my body ~

They can pry that shot from my cold dead hand AFTER they take away everything PINK in my possession ~

just saying. . .

pink hugs!!

Congrats!

I began menopause relatively early (43). The biggest issue for me was night sweats and I woke up somewhere between 5 to 15 times a night. I'm a busy professional so this wasn't going well for me at all.

My Doc referred me to the HRT specialist in my area who promptly prescribed a gel form of estrogen (may be bio-identical, frankly I didn't care at that point) and progesterin in pill form (1xday before bed). Within 3 days I felt like a normal human being again.

Hope things go as well for you!

frankly I didn't care at that point

I believe you speak for us all with that statement. it's like, look, at this point I don't care if it's radioactive with a 500,000 year half life and I GLOW at night. just.make.it.stop.
