My first al anon meeting

After the recent posts about my 'trials and tribulations' over the weekend, I thought I would tell you about my first al-anon meeting.

I was really apprehensive about attending, after all I am a grown up I don't need anybody to tell me how I should feel and what I should believe. Absolutely true, nobody told me how I should feel and what I should believe, everyone was just there, telling me what they felt and what they believed.

Although I burst into floods of tears whenever it was my turn to speak and didn't actually say anything, every one just carried on with the meeting and no one criticised my own lack of input. It just felt so good to know that I was not different, my experiences were not unique.

I already have thoughts/experiences that I can put down on paper, maybe to share with everyone here or maybe to share with my al-anon group, or maybe to never share. Either way its good to know that I am not alone and whatever I think will be respected.

That is exactly why Al-Anon is so great Going the first time is hard and takes courage, but its the first step down a much healthier road. It really was a revelation for me. I'm glad you found it useful.
