ACOA Meeting
ACOA Meeting
I attended my first meeting last night and wow. It was like sitting in a room with a whole bunch of me's.
I was surprised they used the twelve steps and traditions like AA and Al-anon considering a lot of AA members didn't know the group existed. So I was thinking they were not affiliated with AA. Which was confirmed today, they are not.
The topic of course was about next week and how we will deal with it. Most reacted the same as myself which basically put next week as another week and just get through it. Talking about the different experiences from family members was an eye opener for me. Being in the same room seeing the same thing but getting a different reaction. Could be because of where you are as a sibling, being the youngest/oldest, boy/girl. Wow, it was surreal.
My boyfriend who is an alcoholic/addict was there as well and when they asked him why he was there. He said to support me and to find out why I am the way I am. They all bust out laughing because they get it. That made me really happy. I do go to his AA meetings as well more for myself then him but I am there anyway.
I think the only thing that bothers me is the crying. All of us were crying last night. I said this group was the only one I seen with the big box of tissues. lol
But crying is healing so that helps. I think the boyfriend thought we were all cracked. lol
I am excited to go to the next meeting!
