Alcoholism is healthy, don't you know

So tonight AH just tried to convince me that daily alcohol consumption is healthy. I am really into exercise and eating healthy, so I assume that he thought this angle would appeal to me. He tells me that drinking wine everyday is healthy. I tell him that it also encourages alcoholism. I then say that I don't think they mean a *bottle* of wine everyday. I then tell him the the antioxidants found in red wine are also found in blueberries, which also have vitamin C, are non-toxic, do not alter your state of mind, and do not threaten your marriage. AH plows on and informs me that wine is also good for your heart. I responded that excessive alcohol equals excessive calories, which cause a beer belly, and that abdominal fat is in fact very bad for the heart. He had no more pro-alcohol science for me.

Seriously?! Does he really think I'm going to say, gee, honey, you're right. Had I realized the health benefits of drunkenness, I would have been buying the booze along with the fresh fruits and veggies. Where is an eye-rolling smiley when I need one?

Yeah, that "study" caused a lot of snorts of derision over on the Alcoholism forums.

The consensus is that it's a crock.

Crock, quack....hey, they sound very similar. Coincidence?

AH just started a bottle of wine, so I'm thrilled to see how health-conscious he's being.

Well, don't we get to learn something new every day?
I guess this is a snap of a Back flip, and I thought it some inebriate fallen asleep.

NO!! Don't tell me, let me guess this one. Hmmmmm.....Of course...it's that extra hard exercise, the Chin Press.....see how we might get things so wrong.

Guess RABF will live a very looooong time, even if he never has another beer.

God bless

Yeah, I read an article on that study. I can well believe that moderate drinkers live longer if they have healthier lifestyles in general... but I was kinda shocked at the levels of alcohol consumption they quoted. I couldn't have two drinks a day on average and stay OK.

Of course alcoholics live longer - they are sucking the life out of everyone around them.

Why bother engaging in a discussion like this with an active alcoholic? It's kind of like quacking back. Why not just smile and walk away.

Arguing about a thing like sort of legitimizes the argument.

The sky is blue. No it's rose colored. No I tell you it's blue. No it's rose colored i tell you. No it's blue. Rose colored. Blue. Rose. Blue. Rose. etc. etc. etc.

BTW, the study concerns MODERATE daily drinking - which means 1-3 drinks. An average bottle of wine contains FIVE drinks or more (per Google).
