Re: Name Change
Re: Name Change
I contacted admin re: my name change but they didn't warm up to my first choice because it could be misinterpreted as something a tad naughty.
So.....how about PurpleSquirrel?
The story....
We all know the purple part already....
The squirrel part comes from my childhood. It was a name given to me by some classmates that didn't like me in HS because I liked to chatter a lot. Whatever. But when I started working at a residential summer camp while in college I chose Squirrel as my camp name as a way of reclaiming it and turning the intent around.
Besides, a purple squirrel has been sighted hanging around a school in England somewhere...there is even a picture....

I like the first one better
but i like this one too,
But I must - say squirrel not my favorite animal
(it's... a rodent and kills all the baby birds that live in my trees - little b*stards)
how bout - gazelle or cheetah - they're beautiful and awesome
But what ever you choose it will be great

Yes, squirrels can be ornery I admit....
But here is what I also found out about a squirrel as your personal totem. Edited to show only the favorable traits, of course...
From What's your sign? Discover the world of signs and symbolic meanings.
When the squirrel comes into our lives it is often a message for us to have more fun, and take life a little less seriously. We can see this in the squirrel's daily antics in our yards and surroundings.
However, other animal symbolism of squirrels deal with practicality. As the squirrel is commonly known to hide and save its food and return to it in the winter months - we take this as a sign in our own lives; a sign that it might be time to look into our own provisions.
Common summary of animal symbolism of the squirrel:
Energy
Play
Prudence
Balance
Socializing
Preparation
Resourcefulness
Squirrels are quite sociable, and are often seen in pairs or groups. Any amount of observation of the squirrel will reveal that it is a vocal creature as well, and using extensive communications - particularly when in play or when it feels threatened.
In this manner, the animal symbolism of squirrels addresses our ability to express ourselves in social settings. The squirrel reminds us to communicate effectively with others, and to honor those around us with our presence (rather than dishonor them with inappropriate or rude behavior).
The animal symbolism of this animal is also tied in with the fact that squirrels are solar creatures, and as such, they carry solar animal symbolism such as:
Passion
Energy
Expression
Vitality
Now for the flipside, which also speaks to me and about me as well:
It's not commonly known that the squirrel only actually finds 10% of the nuts he hides for safekeeping. This is another message from the squirrel that we can also foolishly over-prepare. Here there is a lesson of balance to be considered.
However, there is a higher significance in this message of finding our 10%. All those nuts our squirrels do not recover are all primed and ready to seed themselves. This means, that thanks to our furry friends, we are gifted with new generations of trees and plants sprouting from all the seeds and nuts burrowed in the soil by squirrels.
This symbolically coincides with the old adage "what we sow is what we reap." What may seem like absent-mindedness is actually a strong message to us to be mindful of the metaphorical seeds we plant in our own lives as they we will surely reap the consequences.
So, what do you think?

As I often say, there's a whole world of stuff out there I don't know anything about. And apparently that includes squirrels!
I've put the request in for your official name change.

Knew nothing about squirrels til this thread, as we don't have them here. Got a few close relations I think, but not the "real" thing.
So very, very happy that you changed your name, and thoroughly approve of this new one.
Have only one question....WHAT the heck was the one the powers DID NOT like???
Farewell DM, and a big welcome to PurpleSquirrel, a Super name change.
God bless

Chicory- Purplesquirrel comes across as a very thorough person, I'll bet, beside their mating habits, that' probably all the info there is on squirrels.
Didn't know there are so many different pelicans, scattered round the world or that there is really an "Australian Pelican" and it isn't anything to do with finding Nemo.
How closely do you resemble your name....Pelican?
God bless
