A small victory
A small victory
After years of dragging around a large debt I incurred due to my inability to manage my finances properly (ok AH's drinking and mad spending helped dig my hole), I managed to pay it off completely today due to a large income tax refund (yay for being a single mother) and a lot of extra payments due to my crappy but very useful job in a law firm.
It's not much, and it doesn't in any way mean that I'm rid of AH, but it's very symbolic for me, as financial stability and security have always been important to me, and while I was married to AH, I neglected my values in favour of buying his booze, cigarettes, video games, junk food, etc.
YAY!

Oh, man! I SO relate. There is nothing more empowering than getting out of debt and getting out of the uncertainties of alcoholic personal finance! Been there done that. Good for you. Keep it going. Stay in control. Don't share!

You are like a totally different person! A name change can be an amazing thing. Congratulations on paying off the bill.
I feel so much better about myself when I live according to my values instead of live according to the values of my Addict Ex. I am proud of me when I make tough choices and do the right thing (not the easy thing). I am proud of you too.
Congratulations.
