Recovery and the bible

On Sunday my pastor preached on recovery from addiction. The way he presented it, the Alanon/AA teachings seemed to be a derivative of the scripture. Very cool.

It's very true that 12 Step teaching and practice grew out of, among other things, the teachings and practices of The Oxford Group, which was a Christian movement.

But I personally would not decribe the relationship between the two as "derivative," any more than I would say that the New Testement is a "derivative" of the Old Testement or that Christianity is a "derivative" of Judaism....

There's a recovery bible available if you're interested. I have a copy, though I don't read it.

It's a standard bible (not exactly sure which version) with all sorts of footnotes and indexes that take bible passages and apply them to the 12 steps - and vice versa. I'm sure if you search amazon for "recovery bible" you'll find it.
