Freedom !!
It is almost the 4th of July
With reflections of the Freedom we enjoy
I would just like to discuss the personal freedom we
can possess because of this great program of Al-Anon!
With the assist of One Day At A TIme in Al-Anon, the first
book written after its conception.
pg.269
"Personal freedom is mine for the taking.No matter how close are the ties of love and concern that bind me to my family and friends,I must always remember that I am an individual free to be myself and live my own life in serenity and joy."
What release !! I don't have to be concerned with what those close to me are doing, I am my own person and free to be me !

"Suppose I feel like a prisoner ,trapped in an irksome way of life,as so many of us do.What am I doing about it? My obvious impule is to try to manipulate the things and people around me onto being more acceptable to me. Do I argue , rage and weep to make my spouse behave in a way that I think will make me happier ? Happiness isn't won that way. Freedom from despair and frustration can come only from changing, in myself, the attitudes that are maintaining the conditions that cause me grief"
Acceptance of myself was a big obstacle. If I could learn to accept me and who I was then I could accept that others had the right to be who they are. Approval wasnt necessary anymore.
Pg 129 and 74 all speak on Freddom in the same ODAT if you don't have one get your butt to a meeting and pick one up, it may help on the road to recovery. All the literature has been a lifesaver to me. You have also been lifesavers, each and everyone of you that come here and share something of yourselves.
To all my dear friends and those just stoping for a peek around.
You have a right to be free, from despair, from trying to save the alcholic, from people pleasing, to being yourself,uniquily you !
ONe set of fingerprints that match no other person alive !
