My Office Christmas Party is Approaching - need opinions
I would go. I would try telling him you were going alone, and if that started 'the conversation' say look, it's my decision and I don't want you there.
Although I love the idea of an Al-anon meeting or a pap, I don't think lying or hiding would help your situation. You sound like a very reasonable and caring person and if he can't accept that your life doesn't revolve around him and he embarasses you with his drinking, take a breath and tell yourself it's his decision.
Is there anyway to tell more people you work with? Or is there security that could keep him out?

Queen-I think ARL said it plain and simple-
Try and place the focus on you-and enjoy yourself that night!
Let someone at the door know what is going on if it will make you feel better-and I'm sure everyone knows that it was not you that made the problems last year!
If he shows up the behavior will be a reflection on him! Not YOU!
