In Memory Of My Friend, Jim
my friend lost his life today.
he was only 48 yrs. old.
alcoholic all of his adult life.
he had lost his dr. lic. and drove a scooter. while pulling out of the local restaurant where he had been having breakfast, he was hit by a car.
jim had been sober for two months, and was so happy that he had achieved 2 months sobriety. jim was the sort of drunk that everyone loved....not a mean bone in his body. never married....no children. but many, many friends.
jim was the sort of man that would fight for you first, then ask "why" later.
although it was well known around this small town that jim was very much the alcoholic, everyone looked out for him, and treated him with respect.....that is because jim did the same for everyone else.
his alcoholism may have stopped him from having a marriage and children, but it did not stop him from having many friends that loved him deeply.
jim....it was an honor knowing you, my friend.
thank you for all you did for me. thank you for all the times you forgave me for lecturing you while you so stupidly grinned at me.
thank you for all the kindness you showed to many people.....many kindnesses that most will never even know about.
thank you for showing up at 2 a.m. in the morning and throwing up in my pool because you were on a crying jag....and i got so mad....and you just said....whoa, thar girl.....i'll take care of it.
thank you for coming back the next morning and draining, cleaning, and re-setting the pool, then leaving, before i even got out of bed.
thank you, god, for jim
his life was precious
rest in peace, jim
i love you, my friend....course you always knew that, didn't ya?
