how to get through detox
how to get through detox
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop feeling so shakey and sick while I am detoxing? My lip won't stop quivering and I feel really sick (not hungover sick)but....well I don't know how to describe it. Iam having trouble sleeping and I can't eat. I am amazed I can function @ all. Normally I would just start drinking to get rid of the symptoms. But I DON'T WANT TO DO THAT ANYMORE !!!!CAM
Cam, a hotbath usually works wonders. Lots of water helps, but don't over do it b/c you can overload your already overloaded system. Any form of exercise, walking, running, jogging, biking, whatever will help get the process into higher gear, but don't over do it.
I found the first few days to be the worst and then things would generally start to even out once my sleep normalized and I began to feel normal.
Be aware you will likely feel a bit "blue" for the first while, but just keep at it.
I am proud of you for making the effort.

You should always check with your dr before detoxing from alcohol because there is potential danger.
A lot of liquids and juice will help and basically just taking care of yourself. Unfortunately, it's something we have to go through.
Lev's advice is right on - warm baths, exercise and sleep will normalize but it will take some time.

I found some relief drinking Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer tea.. 2 bags in a standard coffee cup. Some times I put honey in it and other times I put a bag of peppermint tea. At the rehab I went to they provided a Stash tea... I think it was called "nighty night" or something like that. That tea was a guaranteed good night sleep, but it's hard to find. Celestial Seasoning also has a Tension Tamer and Chamomile tea with valerian root and/or St John's wart that definitely takes the edge off and promotes a good night sleep.
Nothing beats the feeling of waking up in the morning without a hangover! You will become stronger each with each day's resolution and I wish you all the best on your new life free of booze/drugs.
Hang in there!

Id get to a doctor ASAP. I went into cardiac arrest when I tried to detox at home by myself. It started with the quivering lips, shakey hands, facial skin felt like it was crawling, body itched,.....then I started feeling panicy. Anxious. Tingling in my head. Then, I couldnt walk without help. I needed to call an ambulance because I couldnt walk a flight of steps and I was terrified. This doesnt happen to everybody, but, its not uncommon for people to die from alcohol withdrawal detox without Dr.'s care. Go to the doctor. They can give you meds that make it so you dont feel these symptoms.
Thank you guys!!!! I was able to eat lunch..and go do my errands today. I had top/u my daughter early from school(1/2 day) so that helped. Thank you for being here for me!!!!! :-) CAM
Leviathon,
Just took a hot bath. Right before a did a few laps in our pool. You were right....it helps to 1st focus attention away from the problem.....then......the bath relaxes you. I can't tell you how much you taking the time to give me your ear helps me. I have had no one to lean on before now......Bless you!

Well, Cam you need to be prepared and plan. If you can, get out of the house and go for a walk, meet a friend for coffee, shop for something you need. Do anything that gets you away from the usual routine. Is there a Food Bank or Soup Kitchen in your community? If so, stop by and offer your services. It really helps to do something for others.
If you realy can't get out of bed, can you call someone to come over and sit with you, maybe bring a movie for you to watch or a good book to read. Hang in there, it will get better!

things aren't sooo good right now. I am still trying to get over to the sober side. I am doing much better than I was before I decided to get sober...but sometime I slip and fall. Cam.
Kelley,
I am trying to hang in there! Not a good night though....lonliness is my biggest reason to drink. So far I haven't drank. That is the reason I am on here right now so I don't give in the my demons. Cam

I would go through horrible withdrawals to turn around and have to suffer through them all over again. It was insane. Now I know I never have to experience that ever again. I would suggest a recovery program. Don't give up. There is a solution. The first step is admitting we have a problem, then take it from there by working a program. If you have any alcohol in the house, get rid of it. You will only regret drinking the next day and will feel like crap. Good luck and keep coming back. There is great support here and you don't have to go through this alone.
I know I can do this!!!! Because I want to . This drinking is crippling my entire life. Everything such struggle. Going to the grocery store, cleaning house doing laundry. I haven't been able to keep any food down since this past Thursday This is my 1st time to detox so I don't know what to do really

I can totally relate. I couldn't function at all without a few drinks in me. In turn, I couldn't function because of my drinking. It was a viscous cycle. I just kept spinning around and around. When I finally had enough I started going to AA meetings. I was apprehensive at first, but was desperate for recovery. I was willing to go to any lengths to feel normal and gain back control of my life. I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. And quite honestly, my drinking was scaring the h3ll out of me.
Hey there, sweetie. I know you are scared. It is okay to be scared. I am certain that everyone of us was just as scared as you are right now. Can you go to the hospital? How long are your husband and daughter going to be away? If you are having this hard a time of it, I would really, highly suggest being medically supervised while you detox. I know that probably seems impossible right now, but it's really not. So many of us have done it. We want you to be well!
LuLu,My goodness I don't know what I would do without you guys right nNow.:-( I have noone here to turn to(NO ONE) at all. No family no friends to confide in.!!!!!!!! I just want to get my life back. CAM
