OT--Any other teachers out there?
Just curious if anyone else is a teacher...
I've been told I need to try and not be a teacher when I'm not at school.
Guess that's a separate issue to work on. I can't just turn off a part of who I am because it's inconvenient for others.

Yes, I'm a teacher; History teacher, to be exact...as if you couldn't tell...
What is it you'd like to know? or need?
And it's the lecture part or the expertise that they want you to turn off...
Or, alternatively, maybe you're working too much; have no balance in life; and others are trying to caution you.
How are YOU doing?
Shalom!

Hi.........the part of teacher we tell sister, etc to "turn off" sometimes is the "teacher voice" and the part that wants to over-control;organize, watch over to see if it is being done correctly......can creep up and be annoying when we adults are doing something like cooking, etc or when the kids get together. Could that be a possibility (ie variation of codie-mode)? Just a wild guess.

I teach middle school science and yes, I think it's the control factor and trying to help too much that people tell me to turn off. Too much correcting of others outside of the classroom...I recognize this and have been working on letting go of that. I take comfort in knowing that other teachers are like this, too. I'm also finding that in my future I'll need to be with someone who understands my profession and supports my interests. I didn't really have that and that could have led to other conflicts in my personal life.

What the alcoholic does is not my business, and not my repsonsibility and not my problem.....
....Sorry, it's just so hard to turn off the teacher voice in my head!
My ex-A told me once that I talked to him like he was one of my students. I apologized, but later thought that if he wasn't acting like a child, I wouldn't treat him like one. Fortunately I didn't say it to him, but sometimes the teacher voice comes out of me and often it's completely justified.
