Day 1 has passed
Day 1 has passed
Ok so I’m on day 2 and pretty excited about it. It felt so good to go to bed with a clear head.
I had about an hour of cravings and then my wife and I settled into a bible based movie that was recommended to us and we chilled out, next thing you know it was time to go to sleep.
I don’t know what the rules about religion on this forum are but what helped me the most was prayer.
I don’t ask for no cravings, just the ability to endure them successfully. So far so good. :-)

Without prayer I never would have made it to eight years sober.
Congrats on making the right choices yesterday.
That clear head? Wait till you see how you feel at nine/ten months. I had no idea just how bad my internal thoughts had gotten until I put in the time.

Well done, GP60. One's spiritual practice can be an important part of sobriety ... it was for me. You're quite right about the cravings -- it doesn't help to wish for "no cravings" because they will happen, however you absolutely can endure them successfully. There are some good threads here on "urge surfing" that might be useful. It's good to have a few tools in mind when the thoughts of drinking arise. But most important is just to remember that they're only thoughts, they have no power, and they can't make you drink once you've decided not to.

Congratulations on embarking on your sober journey. Day 1 is a great place to start. Day 2 is even better. Keep going and use your faith to guide you. Everything gets better, as time progresses, but some days you may feel like being sober isn't working. But trust me, trust all of us here, it is. Patience is of utmost importance as many of the beneficial changes take quite awhile to start building up, but they do, and it is absolutely worth the wait.
Congrats GP, I am on day 25. It does get better. Some days I still get cravings and I am sure I will continue to get them for awhile. I just try to keep busy and distracted which has helped so far. Keep strong, you can do this!
