Been sick

So I’ve been sick for 14 days. Sober half of that which is because of the sickness. I’m scared of what may happen when I’m better. For now I have no desire to drink and I love it.

Welcome! I suggest practicing gratitude every day. That helped me get rid of the desire to drink.

Welcome aboard

to achieve change you need to make changes - now might be a good time to think about what those living a sober life changes might be?

When you are better, it will get even better.

Just keep coming here and continue to build.

I hope you feel better soon. As others have mentioned, coming up with a plan for sobriety could be really helpful.

What is a plan other than to just stay sober?

A Plan can involve many things. Could be AA, or Smart, or the many other sobriety programs. Could be counseling. Could be checking in here several times a day.

My initial plan was counseling with an addiction counselor and daily visits to SR. I no longer see the counselor but still come here every day to give and receive support.

A plan could also involve not putting yourself in harm's way, ie, avoiding places/people/things that have alcohol as the main reason for being there.

A good part of any sobriety plan is to practice gratitude every day.

I only come here, but have in the past done all of the other stuff.

Self counselling now. Aaarrrggghhh!

Haven't been to an AA meeting in years, but thought I might go to one, not to speak, but to listen. See if the banners are still in gothic font. Has anything changed? How many young people? I think it must have changed somewhat. Society has changed. It might be interesting.

Read recenty that people have better outcomes if have access to peer support. It's been really great to be able come here.

Planning for a bran new world.

There is no other plan than to remain sober.

A good plan helps you to stay sober - it gives you strategies to deal with tough situations and cravings.

An even better plan will focus on not drinking - and what it might take for you to be happy about that

I had many many reasons and excuses for drinking. Unless I dealt with all those...unless I built a sober life I loved - I was likely to go back to drinking.

A plan for recovery is essential to stay sober in my experience and lots of support and contact daily with other alcoholics. SR is great for this 🙏

Woo hoo indeed! Stick with it and you'll see the rewards of sobriety. One benefit of sobriety is waking up feeling good. That never gets old.
