6 months sober

Delighted to be 6 months sober today. I'm feeling happier and healthier. I went through a few very difficult months in the beginning but it was worth it to be sober today.

Thanks to all who gave me support. I was very lucky to find this forum.

Congrats. If you don't mind me asking, what would be the best advice you could give to someone in early recovery?

I had to avoid the people and situations that tempted me to drink. This was hard to do but I don't think I could have stayed sober if I had continued with the same daily routine. I filled my free time with other activities - exercise, meditation, volunteering.

Posting here often helped in the early days and reading posts. Having support is important.

Thank you.

It was great to be sober in time for Covid 19. I have been able to help people - shopping, collecting prescriptions etc. If I wasn't sober I wouldn't have been much use to anyone!

6 months sober has been the biggest milestone so far for me!
Everything became MUCH easier after that. I could feel my body responding, my mind clearing up, the 'me' underneath of the layers of alcohol and anxiety coming back to life.
Congratulations!!

Congratulations!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I feel like my body is still healing. But yes it seems to be getting easier now. Without alcohol I actually seem to be a very peaceful person.

That is great Mary!!! I'm right at 7 months and my life has never been this good. Now I can think, life is quiet and peaceful. Not perfect, but nobody's life is. I'm happy for you. Let's march towards a year now grateful for each calm and healthy day.
