THANK YOU SR ! 4.5 Years Sober
It has been over 2 years since I last logged on to SR and I'm happy to say I'm still sober. SR was integral in my recovery especially in the beginning. It gave me a place to ask questions, read others posts, learn that I'm not alone, get advice and give advice.
Since then I have developed a huge toolbox of how to navigate this sober life and it does get easier. Best piece of advice was when those cravings, or negative feelings hit, just sit with those emotions. It will pass. And you will feel 110% better the next day knowing that you did not give in. There is nothing like waking up clear headed in the morning and that feeling still never gets old. After 4.5 years sober waking up clear headed in the morning is my favorite part of my day.

It took me 40+ years to realize what you are saying. Sobriety really is the Bigger-Better-Offer: the best reward! Sure the quick fix or mood changer of substances can temporarily help in that we don't care as much for a few moments in time. In the long run what a crappy, short term fix!
The best toolbox is good values and purpose. When we find new values and purpose in life, that is the better high, the better reward.
John 8:32 “Then you will know the
truth and the truth will set you free.”
